PRLog (Press Release)– Jul 27, 2011– Miami, FL – On Wednesday August 3rd, 2011, Samuel Goldwyn Films, The Women's International Film & Art Festival (WIFF), the Women's Studies Center and the Center for the Humanities in an Urban Environment (CHUE) at Florida International University (FIU) will present a free advance screening of "The Whistleblower," a film based on a true story about Human Trafficking. The film stars Academy Award Winners Rachel Weisz and Vanessa Redgrave, with Monica Bellucci and David Strathairn. The film will be screened and a discussion ensue among a panel of Law Enforcement agents who will describe the current state of human trafficking in South Florida.
"We're excited to partner with FIU and Samuel Goldwyn Films to present this riveting film along with a lineup of great panelists," said Yvonne McCormack-Lyons, President and founder of the Women's International Film & Arts Festival (WIFF). "Part of our mission through our newly established Women's Alliance For Film, Media and Communications is to address issues that affect woman on a global basis, and this film certainly does that. This event is our 2nd discussion addressing Human Trafficking, and our fabulous line-up of panelists will enable us to explore how this film impacts us here in South Florida and what we can do to help," she added.
Panelists include: Assistant United States Attorney, Chief of Special Prosecutions, and Human Trafficking Coordinator, Barbara A. Martinez; Special Agent with U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, Caroline Stein; Adriane Reesey, of the Broward Sheriff's Office and Chair of the Broward Human Trafficking Coalition; and Associate Professor of Physics, Yesi audi m Darici from the F.I.U Woman Studies Program.
The August 3rd event includes networking reception before and after the screening, with Hors d'oeuvres and those interested can log on to http://www.womensfilmfest.com to rsvp. Seating is limited. "The Whistleblower" is scheduled to be released in selected cities nationwide on Friday, August 5th.
